Have you found your Speaking Voice?

This is THE voice we use for job interviews, client pitches, work presentations, and other public speaking engagements.

It’s the voice that’s meant to Influence, Engage and Inspire.

A ‘strong’ speaking voice makes you sound more confident and gives you stamina to handle longer speaking hours.

Here are 2️⃣ key moves for a *powerful* speaking voice that I rely on each time I have a speaking engagement.

✅ Posture
No slouching please! Slouching cuts off crucial support from the diaphragm muscle, the core stabiliser that moves air in and out of your lungs. Standing or seating upright allows your breath to flow more easily – making you sound more powerful, less breathless and avoids straining your vocal chords. Check your posture in a mirror before going on stage!

✅ Center Pitch
We all have unique voices that will resonate at a certain pitch. Your voice will sound thinner if you go above this pitch, and you may come off sounding squeaky and nervous. Learning to modulate to a lower pitch can help us relax, project an air of calm, signalling authority and credibility. I do quick “uh-huh” vocalisations to find my lower pitch before I address my audience.

Getting the ‘correct’ voice is not an easy task and my coaching clients know I’m a stickler for finding the OPTIMAL speaking voice for each person. The goal is to start now and practice honing that voice to influence and inspire.
