Global markets in 2022 have been rocked by high inflation, rising interest rates and a plethora of geopolitical challenges. Given that 2023 is likely to evolve into a year of two halves, I spoke with HSBC Global Private Banking CIOs to get their perspectives for opportunities to come.

Willem, Fan and James each pointed out silver linings for 2023 – investors can keep an eye out for accelerated economic reopenings in Asia, and supportive growth policies, the peaking of inflation and interest rates; and hopefully the US Fed will be able to engineer a soft landing for the world’s largest economy.  The CIOs also shared views on what makes for a sound asset allocation – with an overweight on bonds and hedge funds, to make portfolios more recession -resistant. Investors should certainly keep an eye out for these key milestones in 2023 because it certainly pays to be nimble when the market rebound happens!
