I had the pleasure of hosting DNV’s Singapore Energy Transition Conference 2021 where we discussed our green energy future in detail.

With energy transition set to bring about huge changes in the next 30 years, my panelists and I delved into the drivers, challenges & opportunities for Southeast Asia’s energy transition and looked at the role #Singapore could play as a forward looking hub developing green technology in the near and long term. It was an honour to have Sharad Somani, ASPAC head of Infrastructure at KMPG; Tan Wooi Leong, Senior Director of Energy and Industrial, Surbana Jurong; Ditlev Engel, CEO of Energy Systems, DNV; Simon Kuik, Head of R&D, Sembcorp Marine; Loic Villocel, Director at EngieLab and Cristina Saenz De Santa Maria, Regional Maritime Manager at DNV join me on the panels.

Here are some key takeaways:
— With the impending #electrification leading to strong growth in solar PV and wind, #renewablesdeployment will increase & we need to be ready for these developments.
— It’s clear that market forces alone will not be sufficient to accelerate the pace of the #energytransition in order to meet the Paris Agreement goals. Stronger policies, supporting regulations, higher carbon pricing, rapid deployment of renewable technology and increase in grid infrastructure capacity are needed; and this requires integration, cross-sector collaboration and partnerships across the entire value chain.

Given that the actions taken today will have a disproportionately bigger impact than those taken five to ten years down the line, companies with the resources and foresight to take action now will stand to benefit from higher valuations and growth. Southeast Asia’s role in this energy transition cannot be overstated and we need to act and move a lot faster in order to move to a greener, cleaner, more sustainable world for all.

This gig was a meaningful one and I learned a lot about the urgency of the energy transition from our experts. Thank you, DNV for having me host and moderate this rockstar event.
